TAWS#1 Kennicott and Mc.Carthy Flightseeing Tours
This flightseeing tour is our most popular and has three different routes available; Bagley Icefield, University Range and the Wrangell Mountains. Each route takes in the essence of what Wrangell-St. Elias is all about; some of the highest mountains and largest glaciers in North America, a variety of stunning land forms, beautiful green U shaped valleys and the resident wildlife. Your pilot will point out the most interesting features and explain how this beautiful land came to be. The pilots are especially good at spotting wildlife after many years and hours looking to catch a glimpse of the local inhabitants. Weather sometimes dictates which tour or itinerary may be the best so be sure to get your pilot’s advice before choosing a particular trip. Duration 90 minutes.

The route takes you past the historic red and white buildings of Kennecott before meeting up with the original wagon road to the mine.  With an elevation gain of 3,000’ in 4 miles you’ll want to make sure to rest often and bring plenty of snacks and water.  Along the way, don’t miss breathtaking views of the Root and Kennicott Glaciers in the valleys below and the magnificent rock glaciers spilling out of the high cirques of Porphyry Mountain.  Further to the south you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Chugach Mountains and Chitina River Valley. Situated in a rugged mountain amphitheater, the Bonanza Mine site surrounds you with history. Keep your camera ready on the hike back to Kennecott. TAWS#3 King and Red Salmon Fishing Charter
The Gulkana is one of only 25 rivers in Alaska to become a “National Wild and Scenic River”. The rich habitat of the Gulkana watershed provides a variety of species to target while fishing. The drainages indigenous species include arctic Grayling, King (Chinook) salmon, Sockeye (Red) Salmon, and one of the most northerly populations of wild Rainbow Trout. The lower Gulkana is known for its great opportunity to ambush extremely fresh salmon headed upstream to their spawning grounds. The lowest section from the Richardson Highway Bridge to the confluence with the Copper is designated as fly fishing only. This run provides an exclusive opportunity to target both King Salmon and Red Salmon on the fly rod. These waters are very conducive for the beginner as well as the expert fly-fishing enthusiast. This trip includes water and a snack. ▶ Departure: Daily ▶ Rate: $160.00 for 1/2 Day

TAWS#4 Wrangell St. Elias National Park Root Glacier Hiking Tour
From Kennicott the trail gradually descends toward the edge of the Root Glacier and as your guide pauses to explain the local geology, flora, and fauna, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the rock-covered Kennicott Glacier and 6,696’ Donoho Peak. Continuing on down the lateral moraine, the air becomes slightly cooler and the vegetation changes as you near the edge of the ice and the freshly exposed moraine found there. You and your guide pause at the edge of the ice to don crampons and learn some cramponing techniques and glacier safety. After “lunch with a view”, the possibilities are endless. You and your guide may decide to head up-glacier towards the massive Stairway Icefall and the possibilities of finding undiscovered moulins and azure blue pools.

TAWS#5 Wrangell St. Elias Park | Skolai Pass Flightseeing and Hiking Tours
Surrounded by magnificent hanging glaciers and home to caribou, Dall sheep, and bear, Skolai Pass is an ideal destination for a guided, fly-in day hike. Board a bush plane and fly east from McCarthy, up the Nizina River. As you continue up river, iceberg-choked Nizina Lake and the Nizina Glacier come into view and soon enough, your pilot touches down on the soft tundra of Skolai Pass. With the entire day ahead of you, the hiking options are plentiful. You and your guide may choose to explore the southern side of Skolai Pass and the magnificent hanging glaciers known as the Seven Sisters. If a more strenuous hike is what you are after, you may choose to hike up a series of alpine benches and head for Chitistone Pass, an airy perch surrounded by high peaks, hanging glaciers and sweeping valley views that will take your breath away. ▶ Departure: Daily ▶ Rate: $575.00
